In 2016, Liz Linehan was elected to represent the 103rd District of the Connecticut General Assembly, which includes Cheshire, Wallingford, and Hamden. She currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the House, as Co-Chair of the Majority Caucus, and sits on the Public Safety & Security and Executive Nominations Committees.
Liz has emerged as a fervent advocate for public health, defender of children against child sex abuse, and a leading voice on child welfare and vaccine policy.
Liz authored and championed numerous healthcare laws including:
- Eliminating the religious exemption for school vaccinations
- Codifying the Ten Essential Health Benefits under state law to protect against federal changes
- The transformative Children's Mental Health bill of 2022, improving the availability of mental health, behavioral health, and substance use disorder treatment services to children, and the recruitment, retention, and training of providers
- Guaranteeing health coverage for cardiac calcium scans
- Requiring Stop the Bleed kits and training for school and emergency personnel.
In addition, Linehan has authored and passed bills protecting homeowner investments, autism training for police, fire, and EMTs, pregnancy protections in the workplace, sexual harassment laws, and mandated reporter and child welfare laws.
Deputy Speaker Linehan has earned numerous awards including National Female Legislator of the Year Award in 2019 by the National Association of Female Legislators, the Visionary Voice Award from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, NARAL Reproductive Rights Champion Award 2017-2020, the Distinguished Service Award from the CT Association for Behavior Analysts, The Champion Award from the New England Association of Marriage and Family Counselors for work on children's mental health, and most recently the Legislator of the Year Award from the CT Chapter of American College of Surgeons in 2025.
Linehan resides in the west end of Cheshire with her husband Brian, and their three children.
